We are often asked: What do you use for filming?

Here we have put together a list of our current, as well the gears from the past. Along with a few notes why we love to use this gear.

If you have any questions on how to set up this gear, feel free to reach out. We will be more then happy to help. 🙂

Our Main Camera Setup

Sony A7IV

Our main and best camera!
It designed for both video and photo! We have it since it was release in September 2021, and we are still very pleased with it!

Cons: Crops in at 4k60FPS (meaning it zooms in automatically when film in slow motion)

Sony FE 16-35 F/2.8 GM II

Our new main vlogging lens.
Pros: We absolutely love this lens. It produces outstanding video quality.
Great low light performance. Cinematic background blur. Lighter and smaller then first generation, that is the reason we upgrade it.

Cons: As any Sony G-master lens – Not budget friendly.

Sony FE 24-105 F4 GOSS

Our secondary lens. We mostly use it for photography. Or filming tight shots.

Pros: Great overall lens, good range of zoom, sharp image quality. If you are looking for first lens, this is a great choice!

Cons: Not great in low light.

Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 Macro G OSS II

Our newest upgrade. The reason we purchased it is because of our Africa safari trip. It performed very well, very light weight, compact and fast focus! Images are very sharp! We also find it very useful in portrait pictures!

Joby Gorillapod 5K

We use this for our Sony A7IV and absolutely love it. Very versatile, it serves as our vlogging handle, tripod and we even wrap it on a tree.

Oben Travel Tripod

Under 3 pounds and folded at 12 inch this is the perfect tripod when travel.

Pros: Very affordable.

Cons: once, MJ managed to unscrew one leg, but Victor fixed it 😀

CF Express 160GB

In order to videorecord high quality footage, Sony A7IV requires this specific card.

*You can record video on regular SD card too, just not on the highest specs.

Pros: does the job.

Cons: very expensive, requires additional card reader.

CF Express Card Reader

Card reader for the CF Express type A cards.

Sony ECM-M1

This one lives on our Sony A7IV Camera.
Pros: Records in many different modes, front, front and sides, all around, mono, stereo plus noise cancelation function! Better sound quality than previous version and smaller footprint!

Cons: We didn’t find one yet.

DJI Wireless Mic

We use this mic when we are in the ambience with lots of noise. Like a big dining hall. We like that it records the audio on from it’s proximity.

ND Filters

PolarPro Peter McKinnon Variable ND Filter I Mist Edition II (2-5 Stop)

Most of the sunny days this filter lives on our lens. Helps to receive a natural motion blur due to shutter adjustment. As well the contrast on the image is much nicer.

PolarPro Peter McKinnon Variable ND Filter I Mist Edition II (6-9 Stop)

This one we use only to take long exposure pictures. Did you see those milky looking waterfalls or waves?! This filter will help you achieve that!

DJI RS 3 Combo

This what we use to get those stable cinematic shots.

Great performance, fairly compact, autolocking function which we absolutely love!

Our Secondary Vlogging Camera Setup

Sony ZV-1

This is our go to camera when we can’t bring the large one with us.

Pros: Pretty impressive image quality, very good built in mic.

Cons: Short battery life.

Joby Gorillapod 1K

This is a smaller brother of Gorillapod 5k. This one we use only for our Sony ZV-1. It comes with a phone mount which we never use. 🙂

Sony Tripod Remote

We use this one both Sony cameras in certain situations. But Joby Gorillapods are our favorites. (for run and gun shooting)

SD Memory Card

We have two of these. One for each Sony Camera. The A7IV it takes two cards at the same time. We never had any corrupted files or any issues with these cards.

Aerial Footage

DJI Mini 3 Pro

After all drones owned we prefer this one!

Pros: Very compact and light weight. Pretty good video quality.
Cons: Due to light weight not handling the wind well. Due to small sensor poor low light video quality.

*When we will loose or crash this drone the replacement of it it will be the next generation of it DJI Mini 4 Pro

DJI FPV

Victor: I don’t fly this drone as much as I wanted to. Mainly because it’s a totally different type of drone. The first one I managed to… Well, it is never to be seen again:). So, after we got the replacement one. I did not spend enough time to learn how to properly use it.

DJI Mavic 3 Pro

This one is on our bucket list. Because of it’s larger size. This drone will join our family when we will be traveling by our Camper Van. Coming soon. 🙂

DJI Air 3

This is another drone that we consider to purchase and recommend. Sits right in between the Mini and Mavic series. Great footage quality but not as large as Mavic series.

Our Action and 360 Cameras

Insta360 Ace Pro

The quality produced by this camera is absolutely unbeatable. We just got this one. But by using it for short time I understand how much better is than our previous action cameras.

Insta360 X4

We loved the X3 version, but this is day and night difference! hands down X4 is the best 36o camera you can get!

Invisible Selfie Stick 3m

This super long selfie stick paired with Insta360 X4 will give you those drone like shots. The diversity of the shots you can get are endless. We used it often in our African safari videos.

GoPro12

We’ve owned GoPro since the 4th generation so we couldn’t resist and got the 12th. Mainly because of better battery performance and slightly better low light footage quality.

Cons: Overall not much improvement  from the 11 generation.

GoPro Media Mod

Media mode helps a lot if you want to add a light or a external mix. It serves as a mount for those.

Cons: changing the battery it becomes more challenging. For that we often pair it with Volta.

GoPro Accessories

Bunch of useful accessories. Very handy for us when we snowboard, mountain biking or even mounting the GoPro on the windshield.

GoPro Volta

This one serves as a grip, external battery, remote and short tripod. We even used it as a phone charger 🙂

Dome for GoPro

Very useful in underwater shooting.

Pros: Keeps the natural colors without distortion. Nice to take those half underwater, half above water shots.
Cons: Bulky when travel.

Micro SD Card

This is what we use for our actions cameras. Great speeds. Never had any corrupted files.

Gear and Outfit

Gear Backpack

For carrying all that gear we mainly use Victor’s back. And all that goes inside this backpack.

You will be surprised how much those two can carry.😁

Our Gear From the Past

Insta360 X3

Use to be the best 360 camera on the market. Beginner friendly, free software from Insta360 that is very easy to use! We absolutely love the footage from this camera, capabilities of it are endless!

Replaced it with the Insta360X4

Sony FE 16-35GM F2.8

Long time main vlogging lens.

Pros: Great crisp image, absolutely flawless autofocus, amazing bokeh (background blur), perfect low light performance.

The reason is in the past is because of newer generation, which is lighter and smaller:
Sony FE16-35 F/2.8 GM II

Sony FE PZ 16-35 F4

Used to be our main lens (before we got the 16-35GM F2.8)

Pros: Very light and compact. Internal power zoom, means no need to adjust calibrate the gimbal. Very sharp image. Adjustable aperture ring.

Cons: Not great in low light. No background blur.

Sony ECM-B10

This one use to live on our Sony A7IV Camera.
Pros: Records in 3 different modes, front, front and sides, all around plus noise cancelation function! Great sound quality! Very good microphone!

Upgraded it to a Sony ECM-M1 because of the smaller footprint and a few more sound modes.

Diety Due Mic

Use to live on our Sony A7IV Camera.
Pros: Can record both, in front of the camera and behind the same time. Small, light.

Cons: This mic won’t give the quality as from higher end mics and requires extra step in editing if recording on two channels.

DJI Air2S

This one was our favorite drone before the Mini 3 Pro. It does have a better footage quality than Mini 3 Pro, but Mini 3 Pro is lighter and smaller which we prioritize in our travels.

GoPro11

Simply amazing action camera.

Main reason why we upgraded from the 10 to 11 is because the possibility of filming in giant square. In post production we can use the footage for vertical or horizontal format.

GoPro 10

We absolutely loved this one. The only reason we upgraded to 11 is the square shooting mode. We found this function very useful for us.

DJI Air 2

This one was our second drone. Pretty good overall. But once the Air 2S came out we upgrade it to that one. It’s the same drone but with a better camera.

DJI Mavic Zoom 2

This was our first drone. Was very excited at the time. But thinking back, not so. Very low battery life, clumsy remote.

On the bright side. This drone introduced me the love of flying drones and getting the amazing birds eye view footage.

GoPro 8

With this one it all started. Our first 6 vlogs were shot on GoPro 8 entirely. One of them reached 24k views in first 10months. This proves that you don’t need fancy cameras to get the views.

Disclaimer – Some of the scenes were shot on the phone. This proves that you don’t need the camera at all. 🙂
